The Embassy of Italy in Cyprus is pleased to announce that a series of events will take place in Nicosia on 1 and 2 November 2024 to celebrate the ”Day of Italian Sport in the World”. The events, promoted by the Embassy from an idea of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will be organized in collaboration with the Italian Int. Institute of Studies, Sport, Society and the Talento Sports Academy and is supported by the European Union and the contributions of the Universities of Lecce, Trento, Polytechnic of Turin, University of Nicosia, University of Cyprus, as well as the Cyprus Sports Organization, with the aim of promoting the values that inspire sport and highlighting the contribution of sports activities to the psycho-physical well-being for the local communities, in line with the Millennium Development Goals adopted by the United Nations.
The event aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Cyprus and Italy with particular reference to exchanges between universities of both countries and the development of methodologies and pilot projects in the field of sport to promote initiatives for the benefit of the local communities.
It is also preparatory to the next edition of the Winter Olympic Games that will take place in the cities of Milano and Cortina D’Ampezzo in February 2026.
The initiative takes place also within the framework of EU Pilot Project “Building Futures” (https://www.building-futures.net) set in Cyprus at Pournara and Kofinou Camps.
