The Etna
Command and Logistic Support Ship of the Italian Navy, commanded by Captain Luca Pasquale Esposito, will arrive at Limassol port Tuesday September 10th and will leave Friday September 13th.

Tuesday September 10th at 15.00 the Commander of the Ship will hold a press conference on board to present the Ship and the program of the training campaign.

Etna has started its training campaign for the cadets of the second naval class of the Naval Academy Sunday July 21st leaving from the port of Taranto and, after a call on the ports of Tangiers, Barcelona, Tunis, Piraeus, Istanbul and Haifa, will dock in the port of Limassol for its last foreign stop, which will mark the end of the 2019 Training Campaign for the cadets, which will return to the port of Leghorn on September 21st.

For the cadets the training campaign on a “grey ship” represents an important educational innovation and an opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge and skills in terms of navigation and the art of seafaring. In their two months on board, the cadets will aim to reach a significant professional growth through an intense and diversified didactic program.

The goal of the Training Campaign is also to promote, through the Etna Ship, its crew and the cadets, the professionality and prestige not only of the Italian Navy, but also of our Armed Forces and more in general of our Country.

This part of the training program puts the future officers in contact with different cultures and traditions, opening their minds and promoting multinational cooperation.

To reach this goal the Navy avails itself also of cultural and promotional events in foreign ports which involve diplomatic missions and civil/military authorities, as well as the civilian population of the host nation, in order to adequately promote Italian excellence.

Our competencies are thus highlighted thanks to this “Naval Diplomacy”, promoting the integration of our Country in a context of strong international cooperation, to confront the many new challenges of the current geopolitical situation through a synergistic effort with foreign countries.

During its stay at the Limassol port, the Etna Ship will be open to the general public Thursday September 12th from 14:00 to 18:00. Visits should be booked a day in advance by contacting the Defense Attaché Office of the Embassy of Italy in Nicosia (providing personal details and id card) in order to access the Terminal of the Limassol Port: difeitalia.atene@smd.difesa.it.
