Culture is an essential part of Italy’s identity around the world, representing a tangible and intangible asset which can be drawn upon to face contemporary challenges. The Italian language represents an important part of this, acting as both a legacy of the past and a bridge to the future, as does scientific research, a sector in which Italy boasts excellent achievements on a global scale. Cultural promotion therefore plays a key role in foreign policy, representing one of the main tools for promoting Italy abroad.
Italy and Cyprus signed an Agreement on Cultural, Scientific, Technological and Educational cooperation which intends to promote wider joint activities and further developing the bilateral relations. The agreement has entered in force on June, 16th 2016.
In order to support the diffusion of the Italian language and culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of Italy in Nicosia, annually assigns financial contributions to the Schools and Universities of Cyprus where the Italian language is taught as well as to Italian archaeological missions present in Cyprus.
