Fermi Lecture “The Hydrogen Dilemma”

enrico fermi lecture series

The Embassy of Italy in Nicosia invites to participate in the 2022 edition of the “Fermi Lecture” series, co-organized with the Cyprus Institute.

This event intends not only to renew the importance of cooperation in the scientific and technological sector between Italy and Cyprus, but also to celebrate the 5th Day of Italian Research in the World thanks to the collaboration in the organization of the event by some of the Italian researchers present at the Institute.

The conference “The Hydrogen Dilemma” will be held at the Fresnel Auditorium at the Cyprus Institute on 26th October starting at 16.30 and will be held by prof. Nicola Armaroli, Research Director at the National Research Council (CNR) of Bologna and member of the National Academy of Sciences.

Professor Armaroli has published over 250 scientific papers and 10 books. He serves as consultant on energy and resources for international institutions and the Italian government.

The theme chosen this year aims to explore one of the possible solutions proposed by the scientific community regarding how to remodel energy production towards increasingly sustainable models, namely the use of hydrogen. In particular it will be explored the topic of green hydrogen, which is produced from splitting freshwater into hydrogen and oxygen by means of electrolyzers powered by renewable electricity.

The Enrico Fermi Lectures cycle is co-organized by the Cyprus Institute and the Embassy of Italy in Nicosia with the aim of bringing leading Italian scholars to Cyprus to talk about cutting-edge scientific topics. In the past editions numerous themes have been explored such as the relationship between science and Europe 60 years after the Treaty of Rome (prof. Massimo Inguscio), scientific-technological developments in the study, the conservation of cultural heritage (prof. Antonio Sgamellotti), the future of urban settlements (prof. Federico Butera) and the pursuit of “quality economics” (prof. Piero Formica).
