The famous Italian theatre director, playwright artist and designer Romeo Castellucci will come to Cyprus for the first time within the framework of the Kypria International Festival 2019 in collaboration and with the support of the Italian Embassy in Nicosia.
Romeo Castellucci will present “Julius Cesar. Spare Parts. A dramatic intervention on W. Shakespeare”, a play created by the “Associazione Raffaello Sanzio”. Two performances per day are scheduled from 1 to 3 October 2019 at the Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre (NIMAC). This fascinating performance was first staged in Bologna, in March 2014, as part of the tribute to the director. It consists in a condensation of the emblematic performance Julius Caesar, staged in 1997, one of the most groundbreaking and subversive art creations of the “Associazione Raffaello Sanzio”.
The performance will bring on stage, one after the other, three historical figures of theatre and politics: the mysterious “Mr. …vski”, evoking the father of dramatic art Constantin Stanislavski, the silent and aged Julius Caesar, and the masterly orator Mark Anthony, played by an actor who has undergone laryngectomy.
Kypria International Festival is the leading annual cultural event of Cyprus hosting one month of theatre productions, dance and concerts by renowned international orchestras and musicians, staged at venues throughout the country. It is organized by the Cultural Services of the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture and it has been running since 1993.
The support of the Embassy of Italy towards the Italian participation to the festival is made possible by a special funding from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the context of the bilateral cultural agreement between Italy and Cyprus.
