We are pleased to announce that the international conference “La Lettera e il Leone”, a research project investigating Venetian inscriptions on the island of Cyprus, will take place in Venice on 3 and 4 October 2024, at Ateneo Veneto and Ca’ Foscari University. The conference is sponsored by the Italian Embassy in Nicosia and the Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies and is organized with the contribution of the Veneto Region.
The public communication strategies of the Serenissima in its maritime territories emerge from a detailed study by researchers from the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice on some monuments on the island of Cyprus. The study will be included in the first European Open Access platform dedicated to Venetian Renaissance epigraphs. It is an innovative tool resulting from the collaboration with the Cyprus Institute.
The initiative is coordinated by Prof. Lorenzo Calvelli, professor of Roman History and Latin Epigraphy at the Department of Humanities of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
Live streaming of the event and publication of the proceedings are planned.
For those who cannot attend in person, a zoom link is available, by sending an e-mail to: lorenzoc@unive.it
