Important information for voters who are temporarily residing in a member country of the European Union for work or study purposes.

On the occasion of the elections for the renewal of the European Parliament, which will take place in all Member States of the European Union in the period between Thursday 6 and Sunday 9 June 2024, Italian voters who are temporarily residing in a Member State of the European Union for work or study reasons, as well as their cohabiting family members, can vote for the Italian candidates at the polling station set up by the Embassy.

To be eligible to vote, it is necessary to submit an application (in Italian language) by 21 March 2024  – addressed to the Mayor of the Municipality of registration on the electoral roll but to be submitted to the Embassy in Nicosia, which will then take care of forwarding it – which must preferably be drawn up using the form available at the link at the bottom of this information.

The request must contain a specific indication of the reasons, study or work, for which the compatriot is in the territory of the consular district and must be accompanied by the certificate of the employer/institute or body where he/she carries out his/her study activity or by a declaration in lieu of an affidavit drawn up pursuant to art. 47 of D.P.R. 445/2000 (link below), which contains the indication of the work or study activity carried out, or the quality of cohabiting family member.

Applications can be submitted to the Embassy in Nicosia:

  1. by ordinary or certified e-mail (attaching a scanned file of the signed application + certification or declaration in lieu of an affidavit + photocopy of an identity document of the applicant) to the following addresses:

nicosia.elettorale@esteri.it (regular e-mail)

amb.nicosia.consolare@cert.esteri.it (certified e-mail)

  1. by mail: registered letter with advise of delivery to the address of the Embassy of Italy in Nicosia: 25th March, 11, 2408 Engomi, Nicosia (by sending application + certification or declaration in lieu of affidavit + photocopy of an identity document of the applicant). Please note that the letter must be delivered in due time, with deadline on 21 March.

  1. in person at the Embassy of Italy in Nicosia during the usual opening hours.

The deadline of 21 March 2024 is mandatory and cannot be waived (the stamped date for applications sent on paper is not relevant): if delivered after this date, applications will NOT be accepted and voters temporarily abroad for work or study reasons will only be able to exercise their right to vote only in Italy (art. 3, paragraph 6, DL 408/1994).

Italian citizens who are on Cypriot territory for reasons other than those mentioned above will not be able to request to vote at the Embassy but will have to go to their Italian municipality.
