Ambassador Leonardo Bencini, Permanent Representative of Italy to the Conference of Disarmament in Geneva, is listet among this year’s nominees as “Arms Control Person of the Year 2023” by the prestigious and acclaimed Arms Control Association, a non profit membership organization, based in the USA. He presided the Biological Weapons Convention Review Conference in December 2022, which succeeded in producing a Final Document and in establishing the first working group to “identify, examine and develop specific and effective measures, including possible legally-binding measures, and making recommendations to strengthen and institutionalize the Convention”
The inclusion of Amb. Bencini among the nominees to this important prize represents the acknowledgment of the relevant position and the dialogue capacity held by the Italian Government inside the international forums on the effective arms control.
