Dantedì – National day dedicated to Dante Alighieri

On March 25, 2020 we will celebrate “Dantedì” – National Day dedicated to Dante Alighieri.

The Covid-19 emergency has forced us to cancel the events we had in program.

Instead, the Embassy of Italy in Cyprus, in collaboration with the Cyprus Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society, invites you to participate in the initiative promoted by the Dante Alighieri Society in Rome.

At 19h Cyprus time you are all invited to read, record and share on your social networks the following famous tercets of the 5th canto of Dante’s Inferno with the hashtags #stoacasacondante #WeAreItaly and by tagging the Embassy of Italy (@ItalyinCyprus) and the Dante Alighieri Society @la_dante.

Love, that can quickly seize the gentle heart,

took hold of him because of the fair body

taken from me—how that was done still wounds me.

Love, that releases no beloved from loving,

took hold of me so strongly through his beauty

that, as you see, it has not left me yet.

Mandelbaum, A.,The Divine Comedy of Dante Alighieri: Inferno (1980). New York: Bantam. 1982.

The Dantedì was established by the Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the minister Dario Franceschini. According to scholars on this date, more than seven hundred years ago, Dante began his journey into the afterlife.
