Italy and Cyprus are united by shared values, common interests and objectives and by a common European vision for our countries and for the Mediterranean region”, said Minister for Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides, representing the Cypriot Government at the reception offered at the residence of the Ambassador of Italy in Nicosia on 8 June on the occasion of the National Day.
“Reliable partners in the European Union – underlined the Minister – Cyprus and Italy have expanded and intensified cooperation through a dynamic dialogue in a number of sectors, in the political, economic and cultural cooperation”. “Italy – continued Christodoulides – is the third commercial partner of Cyprus and the energy sector – in which ENI has a significant role – has a significant growth potential for cooperation between the two countries”.
The event was attended by around 400 guests, including representatives of the highest officials of the State, the Parliament, religious authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the various Ministries and national institutions, exponents of the economy, politics, culture and of the Cypriot civil society and a large number of Italian compatriots.
Restoring a past tradition, the National Day celebrations were also held this year in Larnaca, where on June 2nd, in the presence of local authorities and over 150 guests, a reception was organized in the evocative “Villa Mantovani” which until the end of the eighties, for over sixty years, had hosted the headquarters of the Honorary Consulate of Italy in the city twinned with Venice. The event, realized thanks to the collaboration of the Honorary Consul of Italy in Larnaca and the local Dante Alighieri Association, has allowed the Italian Embassy in Cyprus to reach even more Italians.
Numerous Italian and Cypriot sponsors participated in the organization of the receptions in Nicosia and Larnaca under the banner of the promotion of the Italian System abroad. A synergy that the Italian Embassy in Nicosia expects to be able to expand more and more in the coming months at upcoming events.
For the first time this year, on 2nd June, on the National Day, the Nicosia Town Hall, located in the heart of the city famous for its Venetian fortifications, has been illuminated with the colors of the Italian flag. A sign of particular friendship shown by the Mayor of the Capital, Constantinos Yorkadjis.
