Mrs. Rita Severis, received the Italian decoration of Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy from the Ambassador of Italy to Cyprus, Andrea Cavallari, during a ceremony held at the Nicosia Centre of Visual Arts and Research (CVAR), on 6 December 2021.
As the founder of the Costas and Rita Severis Foundation (1999), Rita Severis developed through the years an impressive activity to retrace and enhance the knowledge of the history of Cyprus, with a particular attention to the presence of the Latin community on the Island, a large part of it being represented by the Venetian, the Genoese and other Italian families which established themselves in Cyprus during the centuries of the so-called Lusignan and Venetian period.
The Ambassador expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Severis for the outstanding results achieved through her career and for her role in contributing to reinforcing the influence of the Italian culture in Cyprus, in particular through the valorization of the Italian cultural heritage on the Island.
