6th Week of the Italian Cuisine in the World

From 22nd to 28th November, the Embassy of Italy in Nicosia invites you to take part in the 6th edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World.

The theme chosen for the 2021 edition is "Traditions and perspectives of Italian cuisine: awareness and enhancement of food sustainability". This year’s subject intends to place the accent on the Mediterranean Diet as a balanced diet model, on the protection of Italian products, on wealth and the variety of food and wine traditions of the Italian territories also through the “Slow travel” model and on the importance of the link between biodiversity and food diversity and the relationship between business, development, growth and respect for biodiversity.

This year's celebrations officially begin worldwide on November 18 with the launch conference at the Farnesina, which can be followed in live streaming starting at 12.00 (CY time) at the following access links: (Italian version), (English version).

On the occasion of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, the Embassy of Italy in Nicosia, in collaboration with the ITA Agency in Beirut, also responsible for the Cypriot market, coordinated a program of events to present the Italian culinary tradition, made up of quality cuisine and world-famous gastronomic products and wines.

Lidl Food Academy

The ITA Agency office in Beirut, in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Nicosia, will organize two cooking show events, in the presence of media representatives, including social, local and main stakeholders and Key Opinion Leaders in the sector. The events will propose to the participants, led by the Head chef of Lidl, to cook typical Italian dishes in combination with some typical local products. The initiative will therefore make it possible, through a targeted promotional and social campaign, to illustrate to consumers the qualities and characteristics of the main Italian agri-food products and how these can also be associated with the Cypriot typical diet.

The extraordinary Italian taste!

The Embassy of Italy has called upon restaurants, venues and organizations particularly engaged in the promotion of the Italian gastronomic tradition to celebrate the Week with menus, tastings and promotions. Also this year the participation of the venues is wide, fine dining and hotel restaurants, trattorias, from wine bars to delicatessen shops. Some of the major kitchen furniture stores also participate in the initiative in support of an integrated Made in Italy approach.

Also this year has been renewed the collaboration with AlphaMega, the largest hypermarket chain in Cyprus which distributes high quality Italian gastronomy products in its stores on the island. Throughout the week, AlphaMega will enhance the quality Italian products present in its stores.

Further initiatives:

Cyprus Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society will publish a video on its social channels of the recipe for "Sorrento style flour gnocchi" by chef Lucia Grasso.

Italian Cypriot Chamber of Commerce associates will promote the Italian products they represent in Cyprus during the week.

As in previous editions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation also coordinates a global communication campaign that will be available on the Embassy's social media.

Finally, the Embassy of Italy takes the opportunity to highlight the publication of the article edited by the journalist Florentia Kythreotou and dedicated to some typical recipes of the Christmas period of 5 European countries, which saw the participation of Ambassador Cavallari together with chef Lucia Grasso with the presentation of the struffoli recipe. The article was published on November 14 in the magazine Taste Gourmet Magazine.
