The Embassy of Italy in Nicosia invites you to enjoy the ‘Extraordinary Italian Taste’ as part of the celebrations for the 5th edition of the Week of the Italian Cuisine in the World.

The Week of the Italian Cuisine in the World is a yearly initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and celebrated by the Italian diplomatic and cultural network around the globe exploring the popularity of quality Italian cuisine abroad, as evidence of the international success of the “Made in Italy” brand. The initiative is led by “The Extraordinary Italian Taste” project, which aims to highlight Italian quality by educating food lovers on how to identify and appreciate authentic Italian products.

This year’s central theme is “Knowledge and Flavours of Italian Regions, 200 after Pellegrino Artusi’s Birth”, marking the opportunity to continue celebrating Pellegrino Artusi, considered the father of Italian gastronomic culture for having gathered together dishes from different Italian regions and published them in his book ‘Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well’.

The Week of the Italian Cuisine represents also an important occasion to highlight the Mediterranean diet, of which this year we celebrate the 10th anniversary of its inscription on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Moreover, both Italy and Cyprus are active partners in the “Group of Friends of the Healthy and Sustainable Diets” they have founded at the United Nations.

This year’s celebrations will officially start worldwide today, 23rd of November, and will last for the whole week. During this week, thematic videos and webinars will be available on the Embassy’s social media as part of a global communication campaign coordinated by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Additional initiatives will also be promoted by the Dante Alighieri Society Cyprus and the Italian-Cypriot Chamber of Commerce.

However, due to the local measures in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the initiatives in Cyprus have been postponed to allow more partners to participate and more people to attend the events, while creating a safer environment for everybody. Therefore, in collaboration with a number of local partners, the rich regional variety of the Italian cuisine will be highlighted in Cyprus through a programme of initiatives (soon available on our online channels) offered to the public from the 14th to the 20th of December. Nevertheless, we invite you to regularly visit our social media for updates on the feasibility of the programme in line with the health and safety measures announced by the Cypriot government.
