A FAIRY TALE A DAY – TWO NEW INITIATIVES OF THE ITALIAN EMBASSY IN CYPRUS

While staying at home, the Embassy of Italy joins the programme #WeAreItaly and proposes two initiatives to promote the knowledge of Italian traditional stories and fairy tales and to celebrate the centenary of the renown Italian author Gianni Rodari.

ITALIAN TRADITIONAL STORIES AND FAIRY TALES PRESENTED BY THE EMBASSY OF ITALY

The Embassy of Italy, in collaboration with the Fairytale Museum in Nicosia, launches a series of online readings of Gianni Rodari’s tales, along with Italian traditional stories, such as those collected and edited by Italo Calvino in “Italian Folktales.”

The readings, specially presented for this Embassy by actor and author Cesare Capitani, will be published every day for two weeks on the Embassy’s channels starting from April 14th. They will then remain available on our YouTube channel.

Cesare Capitani, graduated from Civica Scuola d'Arte Drammatica “Paolo Grassi,” formerly known as Piccolo Teatro di Milano, created by Giorgio Strehler. He is involved in both classical and contemporary theatre. He wrote and interpreted various works, including “Médinitalì”, "Io, Caravaggio” and “L'altro Galileo.”

GIANNI RODARI BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE FAIRY TALES MUSEUM IN NICOSIA

On April 14th, the Fairytale Museum in Nicosia will also offer a choice of tale readings from Gianni Rodari’s work, which will be interpreted by both Cypriot and Greek artists. Inspired by Rodari’s “Telephone Tales,” volunteers of the Museum will read some stories over the phone to children.

Furthermore, in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy, the Museum will launch a contest with prizes on its Facebook page: Children will be asked to paint/craft a place in Italy they wish to visit. The Embassy will offer a choice of Rodari’s books as a prize to the best works.

We are happy to collaborate with the Fairytale Museum and invite you to follow their Facebook page @mouseioparamithiou where every day you will discover a new fairy tales read in Greek. https://www.facebook.com/mouseioparamithiou/
