The Embassy of Italy supports Europa Donna Cyprus – “Fashion for Life” Charity Event

For the third consecutive year, on Wednesday September 25, the “Fashion For Life” charity event in favour of Europa Donna Cyprus was held at the Residence of the Ambassador of Italy in Nicosia. Europa Donna is a non-governmental organization with a large response to its breast cancer awareness-raising initiatives, patients’ rights and support for cancer research.

The event, held under the auspices of the First Lady Andri Anastasiades, met a great success, with over 500 guests, including Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou, the President of Europa Donna Cyprus Stella Mastora, Presidential Commissioner for Volunteering Yiannis Yiannaki and the Commissioner for Children’s rights Leda Koursoumba. In his speech, the Ambassador of Italy Andrea Cavallari stressed the strong links between Europa Donna Cyprus and Italy and recalled the immense work done by Prof. Umberto Veronesi for the creation of an international network of people, patients and doctors.

The Ambassador dedicated the event to Evi Papadopoulou, the President of Europa Donna who passed away at the beginning of this year. He also took the opportunity to wish Stella Kyriakides, outgoing president of Europa Donna Cyprus, all the best for her appointment as EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety.

Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou expressed his support for breast cancer awareness-raising initiatives. He also stressed the need to provide European women with access to prevention, treatment and psychological support. The fight against breast cancer is an excellent example of cooperation between the state and non-governmental organizations and for this the Minister wanted to thank the President and members of Europa Donna Cyprus. The presence of the Minister of Health of Cyprus underlines the special relation that exists between Italy and Cyprus in a very distinct and sensitive field such as cancer treatment.

The charity fashion show transformed the Residence into a showcase for Italian fashion, thanks to the generous participation of some of the best-known Cypriot boutiques, which contributed to the show with clothing and accessories from renowned Italian designers including Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Cavalli, and Iceberg. Particularly important was the presentation of Gucci clothing, to which the show organizers dedicated a special section. At the end of the show, women members of Europa Donna Cyprus who beat breast cancer paraded on the catwalk, conveying the message that breast cancer can be defeated.
