Avv. Buonomo, Former UNFICYP Legal advisor, receives Italian civilian honour

Avv. Fabio BUONOMO, former UN Peacekeeping mission in Cyprus’ Legal advisor, received the Italian civilian honour of Cavaliere della Stella d’Italia (Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy) from the Ambassador of Italy to Cyprus, H. E. Andrea CAVALLARI, during a ceremony recently held at his Residence.

We are particularly pleased to honor Mr Buonomo here in Cyprus, where he has spent over 9 years serving as Legal Advisor to the UNFYCP mission”, said Ambassador Cavallari, highlighting his professionalism and personal skills, which have contributed to fostering cooperation between all relevant parties on the island.

This decoration comes after a long-standing career for Mr Buonomo, who has over 18 years of experience as Legal advisor for international organisations and institutions. He has worked for the European Court of Human Rights and in UN Peacekeeping missions, including Timor Est, Ivory Coast, Kosovo, and Cyprus. He is currently seconded at the World Food Programme in Rome as Ethics officer. He is the author of over 60 publications.

The Ambassador concluded thanking Mr. Buonomo for his work. “He has undoubtedly contributed to strengthening the image of Italian functionaries in international organizations and in peace keeping missions, who are highly appreciated for their dedication, competence and professionalism.”

The Ceremony took place on September 4th 2019, at the presence of the UN Secretary General Special Representative / Head of UNFYCP Mrs Elisabeth Spehar, UN officials and local dignitaries.
