Pafos, European Capital of Culture 2017: Italian artists

On Saturday 28 of January the opening celebration of "Pafos European Capital of Culture 2017", with the motto “Linking Continents - Bridging Cultures” took place. The famous small city of Pafos, crossroad of cultures and a meeting place between East and West, will host more than 150 events in an ideal "Open Air Factory", with numerous shows in open spaces - a tradition dating back to ancient times - and several performances in the streets and squares to re-discover the city itself as a place of creation and artistic production.

Italy will be present during "Pafos2017" with the participation of some Italian artists. We mention in particular:

Mind your Step, a project organized with the collaboration of Dance House Lemesos and sponsored by the Embassy of Italy in Cyprus, aiming to connect contemporary dance and (urban) space. The event will take place on 8 and 9 April with a series of shows in the city centre. The choreography of Giulia Galvan presents a new insight on unseen, unexplored and new spaces of the city.

Galatea's Myths, a performance that includes dancers form Cyprus and Italy, inspired by the myth of Pafos, son of Pygmalion and Galatea and choreographed by Davide Bombana, will take place on 14 and 15 of July.

Officina Zoe, a music ensemble which on May 24 will perform traditional songs of Southern Italy, as well as original songs.

EcoArt - “Paths on Common Ground - Works in situ”, organized in collaboration with the European Capital of Culture Matera 2019, including a Symposium and an Art exhibition that will be open from the 23rd of April until the end of August 2017. The project will take place in the peninsula of Akamas, an area protected by UNESCO, and empowers the philosophy of the "Open Air Factory" with exhibitions in open spaces making possible a cultural dialogue between the public and the artists.
