Virtual Regional Meeting “Between Crises and Opportunities: the Pandemic’s Implications on the Economic and Energy Sectors in the Broader Mediterranean” (May 15, 3PM, CEST)

The Embassy of Italy in Nicosia invites you to participate in the Virtual Regional Meeting “Between Crises and Opportunities: The Pandemic’s Implications on the Economic and Energy Sectors in the Broader Mediterranean” on May 15, 3PM, CEST, organized by the Italian think tank ISPI (Italian Institute for International Political Studies) under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy in the framework of the “State of the Union”, initiative of the European University Institute based in Italy.

The event is held in the context of the Towards MED Regional Meetings, a series of preparatory events for targeted discussions about relevant themes concerning the Mediterranean region in view of the annual MED high-level initiative which this year will be held from 3 to 5 December. Launched in 2015, MED is now an established global hub for high–level dialogues on the broader Mediterranean engaging prominent leaders of Mediterranean governments, business, civil society, media and academia. It reflects Italy’s vision of a positive agenda for the region, to be defined and implemented in the context of an inclusive dialogue.

The virtual meeting, which is part of a series of a series of videoconference events, will discuss the economic and energy dimensions of the pandemics in the region and how MENA economies can withstand the current crisis. It will also reflect on the role of the European Union to support a positive response to the coronavirus crisis in its Southern Neighborhood.

The event can be of particular interest to participants from Cyprus, a country at the crossroads of Europe and MENA, which is already experiencing the effects of the pandemic on its energy plans and on some of its key economic sectors.
